Adams Memorial Hospital, located in Decatur, Indiana, delivers high-quality, comprehensive care with cutting-edge treatment options and accessibility to all. We are constantly expanding our services and developing new specialties. Since our start in 1923, we’ve added several new specialty services including OB-GYN, orthopedics, pediatrics, interventional spine and pain management, regenerative medicine, neurology, internal medicine, weight management, pulmonology and sleep medicine.
Adams Memorial Hospital enhances senior care with the completion of specialized geriatric education through the nationally recognized Nurses Improving Care for Healthysystem Elders (NICHE) program, affiliated with NYU’s Rory Meyers College of Nursing. This certification equips nurses with evidence-based tools to enhance the care of older adults and reflects the organization’s strong commitment to clinical excellence and person-centered care.

Adams Memorial Hospital’s Long History
During the May 4th election in 1920, voters in Adams County were posed with the question of constructing a county hospital. On Election Day, 264 voters went to the polls and cast ballots for better health in Adam County. Their votes approved the construction of the county’s first hospital, which opened on July 30, 1923. Over the last century, Adams Memorial Hospital has remained independent, dedicated only to our community and the needs of our patients. Adams Memorial Hospital provides patients with expert care through our dedicated and trained staff members.

Hospital established with a $100,000 bond issue to finance construction
1923
Construction completed at a cost of $90,000
1947
Third floor was converted to patient care uses
1957
Major expansion of building to increase capacity to 87 beds. Lobby and business office also constructed
1970
Major replacement project to modernize the 1957 expansion and vacate the 1923 section
1973
New edition to the hospital opens
1974
Adams County EMS starts operation. EMS becomes official part of the hospital effective January 1, 1978
1979
ACMH constructs 6 suite office building for physicians adjacent to hospital at 815 High Street, Decatur
1987
ACMH opens new outpatient services center. Extended Care Unit opens at AMH with a 15-bed facility
1993
ACMH purchases Woodcrest Retirement Center. It consisted of a community center and 11 apartments
1993
Ground broken for Woodcrest Nursing Home on May 27; project finished in March 1994
1994
ACMH purchases Lakeside Manor Nursing Home. Building is renovated to open Evergreen Court Assisted Living Apartments. First resident moves in 1996
1996
ACMH constructs addition to the south side of the building

AMH constructs and opens The Village of Heritage Nursing Home in Monroeville in March 2000

$40 million bond issue obtained to construct new hospital

Evergreen Assisted Living undergoes major renovation due to flood of 2003

Name of facility changed from Adams County Memorial Hospital to Adams Memorial Hospital

The new Adams Memorial Hospital opens on July 4, 2005

AHN trustees vote to change the designation of the hospital to one being a critical access facility

The former Adams Memorial Hospital located at 805 High Street, Decatur, is razed

Stat Care, a division of the hospital providing after-hours care for non-emergency injuries and illnesses

The Paul and Kathryn Strickler Oncology Institute is constructed and opened by the hospital

Adams Memorial Hospital hires first employed outpatient physician

Adams Memorial Hospital named one of the top 100 critical access hospitals in the United States

Renovation begins of “B” wing at Woodcrest to relocate the Extended Care Unit to that location
